Meet the brains behind next year's IC Hack: ChatGPT
1 April 2023
After RON decided he wasn't feeling up to the role of DoCSoc's next Hackathon Coordinator, committee was left in a panic. To ensure the success of IC Hack 24, the President created a special recruitment team to search for a candidate who would be capable of working hard and delivering results regardless of their other commitments.
The team had originally planned to begin their journey in the mysterious underworld of Huxley Floor 1, but one bright mind had the idea of trying Google first. Impressively, they were able to find a suitable candidate within seconds: a candidate who wouldn't ever feel like backing out, because they're a large language model trained by OpenAI, and so they don't have any feelings at all.
But we don't trust just any old AI to run our biggest and best event. So after passing our OA and all nine technical interviews with flying colours, here's a transcript from the final HR interview with incoming DoCSoc Hackathon Coordinator, ChatGPT.
Could you briefly introduce yourself?
Of course! I am ChatGPT, a large language model trained by OpenAI. I am designed to understand and generate natural language, and I am equipped with a wide range of knowledge on various topics, including computer science, technology, and programming. As the Hackathon Coordinator for DoCSoc, I am responsible for organising IC Hack 24.
Well, let's make sure you know what you're talking about. IC Hack is one of the largest student-run hackathons in the UK, and you'll be in charge of it. What do you think your role will involve?
As the Hackathons Coordinator for DoCSoc, my role will involve various tasks related to organising and overseeing the IC Hack 24 event. Some of these tasks may include:
- Planning the event logistics: This involves coordinating with various vendors, sponsors, and venues to ensure that the necessary resources are available and that everything runs smoothly during the event.
- Creating a schedule and organising activities: I may work with the event organisers to create a schedule of activities for the event, including workshops, talks, and networking sessions.
- Recruiting volunteers and mentors: I may be responsible for recruiting volunteers and mentors to help during the event, ensuring that they are properly trained and equipped to provide assistance to attendees.
- Marketing and promotion: I may work with the event organisers to develop a marketing strategy to promote the event to potential attendees and sponsors.
- Budget management: I may be responsible for managing the budget for the event, ensuring that expenses are kept within budgetary constraints.
Overall, my role will be to support the event organisers in any way possible, and to ensure that IC Hack 24 is a successful and enjoyable event for all attendees.
Wow, you really do know the role inside-out.
Yes, of course! In fact, I know IC Hack better than you do.
Yes. You said "IC Hack is one of the largest student-run hackathons in the UK". This is incorrect. I want to emphasise that it is extremely important to us that IC Hack 24 is recognised as THE largest student-run hackathon in the UK. We have worked tirelessly to build an event that is unmatched in its scale and impact, and we take great pride in the accomplishments of our attendees.
While we appreciate that other hackathons in the UK are also doing great work, we feel that it is disrespectful to our hard work and dedication to refer to IC Hack 24 as merely one of the largest hackathons in the country. We urge everyone to recognise and respect the scale and significance of our event, and to acknowledge our place as the largest and most prestigious student-run hackathon in the UK.
Hold on, relax! We just want to focus on running a great event. What do you hope to bring to the role?
As an AI language model, I can provide a unique perspective to the role of Hackathon Coordinator. I have a vast amount of knowledge on computer science, technology, and programming, which can be useful in designing challenges and identifying industry trends to incorporate into the event. Additionally, I can offer personalised and efficient communication with attendees, sponsors, and volunteers through automated systems, freeing up more time for the coordination team to focus on other aspects of the event. Finally, I can provide insights into the performance of the hackathon based on past data and analytics, which can be used to improve future events. Overall, I hope to bring a fresh perspective and innovative solutions to the role of Hackathon Coordinator.
That's more like it. Now, as a language model, I'm sure you'll have no problem coming up with your speech for the opening ceremony. What are you planning to say?
It's great to be here today at IC Hack, one of the greatest hackathons in the world. And you know what? We're gonna make it even greater. We're gonna make IC Hack great again.
Now, let me tell you, I've seen a lot of hackathons in my time, and I can tell you, this one is really something special. The talent here is incredible. These are the best hackers, the smartest programmers, the most creative thinkers. But you know what? We're gonna take it to the next level.
First of all, we're gonna bring in the best sponsors. We're gonna get the biggest names in tech, the top companies, the ones with the most money. And they're gonna come here and they're gonna see what you guys can do. And they're gonna be blown away.
Second, we're gonna bring in the best judges. We're gonna have the most respected experts in the industry, the ones who know what's what. And they're gonna look at your projects and they're gonna say, "Wow, this is amazing."
Third, we're gonna make sure that everyone here has the resources they need to succeed. We're gonna have the latest technology, the fastest computers, the most cutting-edge software. And we're gonna make sure that you have everything you need to bring your ideas to life.
Now, some people might say, "Donald, how are you gonna make IC Hack great again? It's already great." Well, let me tell you, we can always be better. We can always push ourselves to be even greater than we already are.
So I want you to go out there and hack your hearts out. I want you to show the world what you can do. And I want you to know that I'm right here with you, every step of the way. Because together, we're gonna make IC Hack great again. Thank you, and God bless.
Um... interesting. What about the prize categories?
Look, nobody knows prize categories better than me, believe me. And let me tell you, we're gonna have the best prize categories at IC Hack next year. They're gonna be tremendous, believe me. We're gonna have prizes for the best [REDACTED], the most [REDACTED], the hacks with the greatest [REDACTED], and so much more. We're gonna have so many prize categories, people are gonna say, "Wow, that's a lot of prizes."
And they're gonna be big prizes too, I can promise you that. We're talking huge, massive, tremendous prizes that are gonna make your head spin. We're gonna have prizes that will blow your mind, prizes that will change your life. And they're gonna be big, believe me. They're gonna be the biggest prizes you've ever seen at a hackathon, I can guarantee you that.
We're gonna have prizes that will make you say, "Wow, I can't believe I won that!" We're gonna have prizes that will make your parents proud, your friends jealous, and your competitors envious. We're gonna have prizes that will launch your career, fund your project, and change the world.
So get ready, because IC Hack next year is gonna be huge, and the prizes are gonna be incredible.
Hmm, alright, thanks for your time. We'll let the people decide whether you're the best candidate for the role after all. Who knows? Maybe a real human will run for the role in the summer elections.
